There’s nothing more exciting than a live theatre performance, especially when the audience is invited to join in the fun! These upcoming shows have something for every member of the family to enjoy.
Christchurch Symphony Orchestra: Christmas with Margaret Mahy
Zing go the symbols, bang go the drums. Carols, songs and antics, an exploding Christmas cake, ravenous uncles and even a mouse that plays on the violin. This fun-filled, family-friendly start to the Christmas festivities is on 19 December at 7.30pm, Christchurch Town Hall. Conductor: Sir William Southgate. Book at Ticketek or www.cso.co.nz.
High School Musical 2
School’s out and the Wildcats are diving into the fabulous world of Lava Springs Country Club. Sharpay vows to win Troy’s heart. This Canterbury Children’s Theatre production is based on the smash hit movie, and includes songs, dancing and music. Opening on 13 February at the James Hay Theatre. Book at Ticketek.
Jack and the Beanstalk
Take the children on a magical adventure of giant proportions with Jack these summer holidays. When Jack accepts some old beans for the family’s only cow, it looks like he’s just made a silly mistake – until the beans grow into a magical beanstalk overnight. The Court Theatre, 18 – 30 January. Sleeping Beauty
A birthday celebration that goes terribly wrong – a tiny princess showered with gifts … and a terrible threat! IMAGinE Children’s Theatre creates a lively retelling of this immortal story. Treasure Island
Playbox Theatre presents an exciting traditional tale sure to amuse and delight the young and the young at heart. Interactive participation expected.
