Handy websites
Knowing basic first aid is essential as a parent. It’s often easy to put off learning it in the busyness of life, and it’s often a skill that you don’t know you need until a scary situation arises.
There are plenty of sources of first aid information on the internet. “Dr Google” certainly doesn’t replace the need for completing a recognised first aid course, but it’s a start for parents who want to find out about how they can learn more from a recognised provider.
Here are some websites you can check out:
www.redcross.org.nz
The Red Cross is synonymous with the provision of first aid and emergency services in crisis situations. Their site has a lot of information about the history of first aid, first aid emergency kits, and training courses for parents who want to learn the basics.
www.stjohn.org.nz/tips/
This website is an overview of a range of first aid situations, and a step-by-step of what to do. It covers injuries from a simple nose bleed, to adult CPR, eye injuries, hypothermia and heat exhaustion. It is meant as an information guide only.
www.plunket.org.nz
Plunket is New Zealand’s leading WellChild provider. Its website has a plethora of information about child safety and basic first that parents can apply.
A Google search on first aid training will help you to locate a recognise first aid training provider in your region.
